Veteran firefighter and President of the Putnam Lake Fire Department, Marco Farciert, sat down with us to discuss the importance of properly numbering your home address. Farciert, who has been with the department for over 15 years, stressed the critical role that clear and visible home addresses play in emergency situations.
"In an emergency, every second counts," Farciert emphasized. "When first responders are called to a scene, they rely on accurate information to quickly locate the situation. A clearly numbered address can make all the difference in speeding up our response time and ultimately saving lives."
Farciert recounted a recent incident in which the lack of visible address numbers on a home led to delays in locating the correct house during a medical emergency. "It was a bad situation, and every minute felt like an eternity as we tried to pinpoint the correct address," Farciert recalled. "Fortunately, we were able to find the home, but the delay could have had serious consequences."
The president of the Putnam Lake Fire Department urged residents to take the time to ensure that their address numbers are easily visible from the road, especially at night. "Simple steps like using reflective numbers or installing a light fixture near your address can make a big difference," Farciert advised.
Farciert also emphasized the importance of updating address numbers when moving to a new location or renovating a home. "It's crucial that emergency personnel have accurate information at all times," he explained. "By taking the necessary precautions to properly number your home, you are not only helping first responders but also ensuring the safety of yourself and your loved ones."
As a seasoned firefighter, Farciert has seen firsthand the impact that clear address numbers can have on emergency responses. "It may seem like a small detail, but it can have a significant impact in a crisis situation," he concluded. "It's a simple yet essential way to ensure that help can reach you as quickly as possible." |
